## What openShelf is
openShelf is a free reading app providing access to public-domain books from
Project Gutenberg. You can also share short emotional reactions ("thoughts")
tied to specific pages of books you read.
## Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in
your country, if higher) to use openShelf, and to share or read public
thoughts.
## Account
You don't need an account to read or share thoughts. Some optional features
may use Google Sign-In in future versions — signing in is always optional.
## What you can do
- Read every book in our catalog for free
- Save private highlights, notes, and annotations locally on your device
- Share short thoughts publicly, subject to moderation
- Subscribe to **Premium** to remove all ads and read your loaded books offline
## What you can't do
You may not post a thought that:
- Harasses or threatens a real person
- Is spam or advertising
- Is sexually explicit
- Calls for real-world violence
All public thoughts pass through automated moderation. Repeat violations may
result in being unable to post thoughts.
You may not scrape, redistribute, or commercially exploit book content in ways
that violate Project Gutenberg's terms. You may not attempt to disable,
reverse-engineer, or circumvent the app's moderation or ad systems.
## Reporting content
Tap **Report** on any thought that violates these terms. Reports are reviewed
promptly.
## Premium
- Premium removes all ads from the app and lets you read your loaded books
offline.
- Subscriptions are processed by **Google Play** and auto-renew until
cancelled. Manage or cancel your subscription through your Google Play
account, not through us.
- Refunds follow Google Play's refund policy.
## Books
Book texts come from Project Gutenberg and are provided "as is". We make no
guarantee of availability or accuracy. Books available depend on what Project
Gutenberg makes available.
## Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect,
incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of openShelf.
## Termination
We may suspend or remove access to the public thought-sharing feature for users
who repeatedly violate these terms. The reading experience remains free
regardless.
## Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law
principles.
## Changes
We may update these terms. Continued use after a change means you accept the
updated terms.
